Tutors are trained in the Laubach method of instruction through 14-hour tutor-training workshops held quarterly. Attendance at all sessions is required in order to be certified as a tutor. A $5.00 workshop registration fee is charged to help defray the cost of copies. All books and materials will be furnished by the Center when the tutor has been matched with a student. Tutors are asked to commit to tutoring at least three hours a week. No previous teaching experience is needed. If you can read and write, you can teach.

Verizon Literacy Campus - www.vluonline.org
VLC is a website that offers a wide range of online literacy courses available free to anyone. On completion of all sections of a VLC course, a user receives a course certificate that simply indicates that the user has completed a particular VLC course. Also, whenever you like, you can print a transcript of courses you’ve completed.

They do not offer university credits or CEU’s at this time. The site advises teachers to check with the administrator of their program to see if taking one or more VLC courses can qualify as professional development hours.

The course index shows estimated completion time for each course.
