Give the Gift of Literacy. As you decide what to give your friends, family, or colleagues for the holidays, why not honor them with the gift of Literacy? A holiday gift to the Adult Reading Center will have an immeasurable effect on the life of an adult learner in our community. Meet a few students whose lives YOU can touch: • Jorge said, “Some people walk by the Center and think it’s just a house...you can’t tell what it is. But this place changes lives. It’s changed mine.” • Nina said, “The program they have is awesome. It’s amazing what I’ve learned in a few months. I pick up a book and say, ‘wait a minute, I know that word.’ It’s overwhelming.” • Adult learners Victor, Beulah, and Maria continue their learning by becoming volunteer tutors— giving back what has been given to them. The Adult Reading Center serves over 750 adult learners each year. All of the funds raised by the Center are used to provide FREE services to adults learning to read, write and speak English; transforming adult literacy learners into self-sufficient wage earners and parents who are actively involved in their children’s education.
