Job Opportunities - Part-Time Receptionist
Background
The Adult Reading Center, established in August of 1987, is the only volunteer-based literacy provider in the Pearland area. We provide FREE instruction to adults who have difficulty functioning effectively in the community due to poor English speaking, reading, or writing skills. The Center utilizes the Laubach method of instruction as our core curriculum. It is phonics-based with four basic levels of instruction that can take a non-reader to a sixth-grade reading level. Videos, audiotapes and other curricula are available as needed to meet each student’s individual needs.
Volunteers
Volunteers are essential to our Center’s continued success. Volunteers are needed to staff the office, provide maintenance services to the facilities, but more important, to provide one on one tutoring to adult students. We encourage tutors to donate their much needed time and effort. It is much appreciated by the adult learners and our staff. Tutors are given the necessary training to provide the best instruction. Our adult learners's successes could not be accomplished without the help of our volunteer tutors! If you are interested in becoming a tutor please contact us!
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is composed of 20 members that work hard to keep the Center financially stable. Many members of our board are community leaders or local business owners that know the importance of a literate workforce. The board of directors is an important part of the Center's services to the community. For the complete list of board members, click here.
